Don’t Let Fear Hold You Back: Tips for Conquering Fear as a Writer

Writing can be an incredibly rewarding experience, but it can also be a bit scary. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced writer, it’s normal to feel fear when it comes to putting your thoughts and ideas down on paper. In this post, we’re going to talk about some ways to overcome fear in your daily writing routine.

First and foremost, it’s important to recognize that fear is normal. It’s completely normal to feel scared about putting your thoughts and ideas out there for others to see. But here’s the thing, fear doesn’t have to hold you back. It’s important to acknowledge that fear is there, but not to let it control you.

Each week, we publish a new daily writing routine from a famous author. Subscribe to our newsletter so you don’t miss out!

One way to overcome fear is to start small. If you’re feeling overwhelmed by the thought of writing a novel, start by writing short stories or poetry. This will help you build confidence in your writing abilities and help you to gradually work your way up to larger projects.

Another way to overcome fear is to remind yourself that writing is a process. It’s not about getting it perfect the first time. It’s about putting your thoughts and ideas down on paper and then revising, editing and polishing it. Embrace the process of writing and don’t be afraid to make mistakes.

Additionally, it’s helpful to remind yourself of the purpose of your writing. Whether you’re writing for personal or professional reasons, remember that your words have the power to impact others in a positive way. This realization can help to put things into perspective and make the fear feel less daunting.

Lastly, It’s important to surround yourself with a supportive community, whether it’s a writing group, a mentor or just a friend who is also a writer. Having someone to talk to, share your work with and get feedback from can be incredibly helpful.

Fear is a normal part of the writing process, but it doesn’t have to hold you back. Recognize that fear is there, but don’t let it control you. Start small, embrace the process, remember the purpose of your writing, and surround yourself with a supportive community. By doing so, you’ll find that you’ll be able to overcome fear in your daily writing routine and become a more confident and productive writer.
